In 1970 New York native Kerry Kleid applied for and was granted an AMA pro motocross license. While commonplace today, it was unheard of at the time. Across the oceans, a handful of other national race associations allowed women to compete in the early 70s, the American Motorcycle Association was not one of them. Kerry’s ambiguous name allowed the paperwork to slide through the bureaucratic cracks. But when she showed up for an AMA Pro Motocross race in July of 1971 in Unadilla, New York, she wa
