Feb 10, 2018 · A v12 will have 3 power stokes per rotation, and the eaach explosion merges to create a smoother sound. Eg. A 4 cylinder @ 1000 rpm will create 250 power strokes per minute. A 12 cylinder engine running at 1000 rpm will create 750 power strokes in the same ammount of time. This affects the smoothness of the sound.

In the 60's, I6's were the typical everyday car engine, and V8's were the performance/luxury engines. However, V12's are extremely smooth, hence why non-American luxury makes used them so much, and a V12 pretty much just is two I6's put together.

Jun 12, 2015 · BMW N74 in the 760 is a 6L TT V12 making 560hp (less than 100hp/L even with turbos). Mercedes M279, 6L TT V12 making 523hp (less than the BMW). Audi boasts a 6.3 W12 making 493hp (even less than the Mercedes in terms of HP/L). If we got to Japan, with Toyota, their 5L V12 makes 310hp for even less HP/L output than the underpowered Audi.

For the N74 engine there have been some number of F01 7-series, plus Rolls-Royce Ghosts, Wraiths, Cullinans and Phantom VIIIs. If you add these all up they might exceed the Jaguar V12.

Aston’s first V12 was made when Ford bought them in the 90s, and it’s based off of the Ford Duratec V6. Still a great engine though. Mar 24, 2022 · Size. The current standard engine is between 1L and 2L and has 3-4 cylinders. A V16 or a V20 is gigantic. The biggest running engine is a W16, 2 V8 engines "fused together". This was the compromise exactly: due to space. Cars would've been massive. Pollution. Making a smaller engine more efficient is a lot easier than a bigger one.
