It's not every day a 105-year-old war veteran commends your bravery, but that's exactly what occurred today when, according to Hello!, Yavar Abbas saluted "my brave King," King Charles II, for being at the VJ Day remembrance service amid his battle with cancer.
The Prince and Princess of Wales posted a personal message on social media remembering the “courage, sacrifice and resilience” of all who served.
A 100-year-old World War Two veteran said VJ Day did not seem to be of any "great consequence" at the time, even though he was serving in the Pacific. Richard Clegg, from Bozeat, near Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, was on board HMS Victorious on 15 August 1945 when Japan surrendered.
The Prince and Princess of Wales found themselves in hot water this VJ Day, despite issuing a sentimental statement online. For those unfamiliar with the annual UK celebration, it takes place on the 14 August every year to mark the anniversary of Japan's surrender to the allied forces during World War II.
The royals came together to honor the British and Commonwealth troops who fought in WWII, but Prince William and Kate were notably absent.
One of the RAF Red Arrows experienced a bird strike on the way to a flypast on Friday. The aerobatic display team were headed to the National Memorial Arboretum, near Lichfield, Staffordshire, to commemorate the 80th anniversary of VJ Day, when the strike happened.
