Academy Award-winning actress Michelle Yeoh looms over this pricey production playing Emperor Philippa Georgiou, who was last seen in the debut season of Star Trek: Discovery commanding a starship as Captain Georgiou and who later emerges in the far future’s Mirror Universe as the heartless ruler of the Terran Empire.

It’s a fun vibe that gives the entire cast a chance to ham things up, but whenever Section 31 slows down to zoom in on Georgiou’s inner turmoil, you can sense how much more substance there could have been to these characters if they were fleshed out over the course of a series.

It's a fine excuse to occasionally watch Oscar-winner Michelle Yeoh kick things, but Section 31 is otherwise a deeply incurious squandering of Star Trek potential.
