Rattler and the Saints took over at their own 18-yard line trailing 17-9 with 2:39 remaining. After the 2-minute warning, Rattler made a key fourth down conversion by hitting Mason Tipton to move the chains, then hit Tipton again for 26 yards later in the drive to put the Saints in scoring position.

Spencer Rattler now has some late-game highlights on his preseason resume as he competes with rookie Tyler Shough to become the New Orleans Saints' starting quarterback.
Rookie Tyler Shough got the most snaps at quarterback for the Saints in Sunday's preseason opener against the Chargers, but Spencer Rattler got the first chance to make his case to be the team's starter.
"They’re ballers," Rattler said of the Saints rookie class shortly after the game. "I mean, they’re dependable. They’re reliable. They know their stuff and Jonas has had a great camp and obviously made plays throughout the preseason and made a great pick. I thought there was a second left, but he made a hell of a play."
