SARASOTA, Fla. (WFLA) — A red tide bloom has been impacting parts of Sarasota County, causing fish kills along some beaches.

Red tide is caused by a harmful algae bloom. It can bring respiratory problems and even fish kills in high concentrations.

The technologies were deployed into an active red tide bloom in Venice Canals last Friday and achieved a 70% or higher kill rate.

Red tide is caused by an algae called Karenia Brevis. This algae is always present in some concentrations in the Gulf waters.
