Gifford Fire initially started 3:44 p.m. Aug. 1 in San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara County, California. Since its discovery 27 hours ago, it has burned 30,519 acres. By Saturday evening, the fire crew effectively contained 5% of this fire. The blaze's cause remains under investigation.

Parts of San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties are being affected by the fire, and all other evacuation orders and road closures are still in effect. So far, one zone in SLO County remains under evacuation warning, while many others now fall under evacuation order.

Over 500 hundred fire fighters across the state are in Santa Barbara County helping to fight this fire and Sacramento strike team arrived and got right to work the morning after.

Fire managers for the U.S. Forest Service put Gifford at 49,761 acres (77 square miles), with 3% containment. Three people were reported injured: a civilian who was burned, and two contractors who were injured in an off-road utility vehicle’s rollover.

A nearly 40,000-acre wildfire forced people from their homes in two Southern California counties over the weekend as firefighters worked to contain the blaze in challenging terrain.

The Gifford Fire burning east of Santa Maria along Highway 166 has already spread across 49,761 acres Sunday evening, August 4, with 3% containment.
