The president has suggested that Kimmel may be next to go after 'The Late Show with Stephen Colbert' was abruptly canceled on July 17

Jimmy Kimmel has been vocal with his dislike for Donald Trump's presidency and famously expressed disappointment over his 2024 victory.

Fans of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert aren’t letting the night program go down without putting up a fight. Instead, they’re letting their voices be heard as they protest the CBS series' cancellation on the network.

CBS said the cancellation wasn't related to "content or other matters happening at Paramount." Paramount controversially agreed to settle a lawsuit brought by Trump over a "60 Minutes" interview with then-presidential candidate Kamala Harris.

The Late Show With Stephen Colbert has never won any Emmy in its previous nine seasons despite some notable streaks of excellence. (It has been nominated 31 times.) For much of that period, it competed in late-night’s top category against Last Week Tonight With John Oliver, which Emmy voters love the way Oliver loves a minor-league baseball team .

Kicking off Monday’s show with a joke about Trump wanting to change the name of the Washington Commanders NFL team (the “Washington Epsteins”, Colbert suggested), he walked into the Ed Sullivan theater to loud cheers and said “This is going to be fun”. It certainly was.
