The British Academy has revealed its list of nominees for the 2025 film awards. Announced on Wednesday by last year’s BAFTA Rising Star winner Mia McKenna-Bruce and Will Sharpe, star of “The White Lotus” (and also a BAFTA TV award winner in 2020),

Holy smokes, a film that dramatizes the process to choose a Pope leads the 2024 BAFTA Film Awards. “Conclave” earned 12 nominations, beating out the musical about a drug lord getting gender affirming care, “Emilia Pérez,” which had 11. Period drama “The Brutalist” scored nine nominations.

The nominees for the 2025 EE BAFTA film awards are being unveiled in London on Wednesday. Actors Will Sharpe and Mia McKenna Bruce are revealing the coveted shortlists at 12 p.m. GMT (4 a.m. PT) in a livestream from the U.K. Academy’s headquarters at 195 Piccadilly in the British capital.

Surprises And Snubs: Only five actors are nominated in the Oscars and Screen Actors Guild's acting categories, while the BAFTAs nominate six in each.

She lauded the list of nominations, particularly its variety, noting that six different genres were represented on the best film list. She also highlighted that 14 of the 24 nominations in the acting categories were first-timers, and that whoever wins the best actress award will be a first-time BAFTA winner.
