Have you noticed a salt-like taste in your tap water? For residents in southern New Jersey, a local water company is blaming the use of salt and brine on the roadways and sidewalks during winter storms for a recent change in taste.

The water utility said this issue is not unique to just New Jersey American Water, but part of a larger statewide issue.

Every winter local road departments, commercial parking lot owners, and homeowners use salt to melt snow and ice on roads and other surfaces.

We have a heads-up to customers of New Jersey American Water. The utility says the salt and brine used on roads and surfaces in the winter weather can wash into nearby waterways and the drinking water.
