Harvard University battles Trump administration's $2.2 billion funding cuts with pay reductions and a lawsuit, as it refuses to comply with governance demands.
Harvard University President Alan Garber will take a voluntary 25% pay cut for the academic year that starts July 1, a school spokesman said.
The initial allocation will "support critical research activity for a transitional period" as the university looks for other sources of funding after the Trump administration slashed federal funds to the school,
The school did not disclose his salary, though recent predecessors earned about $1 million a year at the elite institution.
Garber has informed other senior administrators of his decision, and several have also committed to voluntary pay cuts, though the extent of their reductions remains unclear.
Harvard University announced Wednesday that it will dedicate an initial $250 million toward backfilling some of the Trump administration’s research funding cuts to the university, which to date amount to nearly $3 billion.
Wednesday’s announcement comes just a day after the Trump administration cut another $450 million grants to the Ivy League school.
