February’s full moon, called the snow moon, is also the final full moon of meteorological winter. Here’s how to see the moon as it reaches its peak Wednesday.

There will also be two total lunar eclipses that occur during the March and September full moon events. A lunar eclipse, which causes the moon to look dark or dimmed, occurs when Earth is between the sun and moon and the three celestial objects line up in a row so that the moon passes into our planet’s shadow.

The snow moon will reach peak illumination on Feb. 12 at 6:53 a.m. ET/7:53 a.m. CT. Other names linked to February's full moon include the Hungry Moon due to the scarce food sources and difficult hunting conditions during mid-winter, Time and Date reported, and the Bear Moon, referring to bear cubs being born this time of year.

Other exciting things to keep an eye out for in the night sky this month are bright planets. The planets will continue to put on a display throughout February as they did during their 'planetary parade' last month. Venus, Saturn, Mars, Jupiter, Uranus and Neptune aligned in the sky on January 21.
