Rupert Murdoch-owned the Wall Street Journal ridiculed President Donald Trump’s half-baked trade “deal” with China, calling it a “truce that tilts in China’s direction” after months of wavering back and forth.

U.S. President Donald Trump took to his social media platform, Truth Social, on Wednesday to proclaim that a deal with China was “done,” pending final approval from himself and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

While Trump claimed the deal was done, China referred to it as merely a “framework.” Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick went even further, calling it a “handshake for a framework,” that both Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping need to approve.

Shortly after President Donald Trump returned to the White House in January, he launched a tariff war against China, as part of a broader implementation of import taxes on goods from several dozen countries as Trump seeks to reset the foundations of global trade.

The president said he and Chinese President Xi Jinping still need to sign off on a preliminary deal, even though he called it "done."
