San Antonio Police Chief William McManus held an impromptu press conference near the incident around 10:30 p.m. and explained to local media about what transpired. It was initially reported that only four police officers were shot during the incident.

The unidentified suspect shot an officer who first arrived at the scene then proceeded to shoot six more officers more, the San Antonio Police Department said.

Seven San Antonio police officers were shot while responding to an emergency call about a “suicide in progress.” The injuries are not thought to be life-threatening. The suspect barricaded himself inside an apartment for hours and was later found deceased.
