The NFL fined Houston Texans running back Joe Mixon for comments he never made, then re-issued the fine with comments he did make amid controversy.

Mixon's agent said the NFL improperly fined Mixon for remarks to the media about the officiating in the Texans' loss to the Chiefs.

After the NFL hit the Houston Texans' Joe Mixon with a fine for comments it attributed to him incorrectly, the league then issued the running back another fine for what he actually said, per his agent Peter Schaffer.

According to Pro Football Talk, the league has fined Houston Texans running back Joe Mixon $25,000 for criticizing the officials. The problem is, he never said what the league claims he did. According to Mixon and his agent,

Mixon presents a difficult look for the Chiefs. He is strong between the tackles but also has the ability to create havoc as a pass catcher. The Texans will be missing slot receiver Tank Dell due to an injury suffered at KC in Week 16 and could rely on Mixon to absorb some of those intermediate routes.

After getting fined for something he didn't say, Joe Mixon is still getting fined for what he did say after the Texans' loss.

The NFL apparently takes criticism of its referees so seriously that you can get fined for criticizing remarks you didn’t actually say.
