The New York Jets interviewed Rex Ryan for their head coaching position, but have reportedly already passed on the former head coach.

ESPN NFL Insider Dan Graziano provided a bizarre update on Jeff Ulbrich and the New York Jets amid the coaching search.

The New York Jets’ next head coach reportedly will not be Rex Ryan. Ryan, 62, has been vocal about wanting a chance to return. He interviewed with the team last week, but it could be one-and-done in terms of those chats.

The Jets have launched their head coaching search, and Ron Rivera and Rex Ryan are a couple of the early candidates.

The Jets have reportedly hired Glenn as their next head coach on Wednesday, replacing Robert Saleh (and interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich). The now-former Lions defensive coordinator has risen the ranks from scout to coordinator and now gets his first shot at head coaching.

“I’m excited to welcome Aaron Glenn home as the head coach of the New York Jets,” owner Woody Johnson said in a statement. “Aaron earned this opportunity through almost three decades of NFL experience — 10 with us as a player and a scout.

For some of those teams, that will involve finding new head coaches and/or General Managers. Three teams fired their head coaches during the season and two more have been dispatched as of 9 a.m. ET on January 6.

And they ended up choosing one of their former players — a first-round draft pick in 1994 who was mentored by Bill Parcells, became one of the Jets’ best playmakers and developed into a well-respected and highly sought coach.

New York needed a strong-willed coach who won’t be shaken on the big stage. With his run in Detroit and a connection to the Jets, he checked all the boxes.
