Jeremy Swayman will not play in Thursday's game against the Ottawa Senators due to an upper-body injury suffered the day before.

Trent Frederic will return to the Bruins lineup after missing two games with an illness. Sacco said there could be other game-time lineup changes. After Wednesday’s loss at New Jersey, Sacco said Swayman was “dealing with something minor” after he replaced him with Joonas Korpisalo in the third period.

One of Swayman’s most notable characteristics is his complete and utter confidence, the surety he has in himself and his place in hockey. It’s something that has been the subject of countless conversations, including those he’s had with defenseman Brandon Carlo, a sounding board on the team.

Swayman stopped 25 out of 29 Devils shots he faced on the night. The Bruins were outmatched entirely by the Devils at that point of the contest, but Swayman did his best to keep the Original Six club in it. He made several big stops, but the Bruins could not stop the Devils' offense.

BOSTON — After interim coach Joe Sacco hinted that Jeremy Swayman was dealing with something health-related when he didn’t return for the third period of the Bruins’ loss to the New Jersey Devils on Wednesday, Boston called up a goalie from the AHL.

When Joe Sacco changed goalies heading into the third period and the Bruins down three in Wednesday’s 5-1 loss, the natural assumption was that Boston’s interim head coach was resting Jeremy Swayman to give himself the option to start him again at home on Thursday.

The Boston Bruins have called up another player from AHL Providence and likely added another player to their ever-growing list of injuries. Boston recalled goalie Michael DiPietro on Thursday ahead of their game against the Ottawa Senators.
