Two homes are lost and evacuation notices remain as fire officials continue attacking multiple wildfires burning along Colorado’s Western Slope Friday morning.

The amount of land burned this year is on pace to be the most since 1994, as 100 blazes roared on Friday across the central Canadian province.

The Wolf Fire was just one of a spate of smaller-sized fires in the Inland Empire over the past two weeks, often near fast-growing residential areas. We are tracking two fires burning in the west of Colorado. One has caused evacuations in the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, and the other has burned two homes North of Buena Vista.

The country is experiencing its worst drought in decades, which has set the conditions for the blazes to scorch an area the size of Washington, D.C.

"The main reason was the South Fork Fire last year that burned directly west of Ruidoso," Grzywacz said. "The soil wasn't able to absorb any of the rainfall, and it runs right down into Ruidoso. Normally, if you had that vegetation still there, it could absorb it. For the Ruidoso monsoon season, it was above average rain but not record rainfall."
