The House adopted the map, 88 to 52, along party lines. A Senate panel advanced a similar map Sunday, and the full chamber was expected to send the new lines to Gov. Greg Abbott’s desk later this week.

California state lawmakers are taking a series of votes in a bid to pass a mid-decade redistricting plan, a move that comes just hours after Republicans in the Texas House passed new maps of their own.

Democratic leaders from coast to coast ripped Texas state Republicans on Wednesday for approving a new Congressional map that gives the GOP an opportunity to net five additional House seats in next year’s midterm elections.
