NEW DELHI -- A thumping weekend victory for India's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Delhi's assembly polls has thrown the future of its local rival into doubt, and boosted morale in the run up to a key state election, analysts say.

The BJP won 48 of the 70 seats in the capital district, well ahead of the 22 for the Aam Aadmi Party of Arvind Kejriwal, a fierce critic of Modi, Election Commission data showed.
