The State Department’s decision to “aggressively revoke” visas for Chinese students and revise visa criteria for future applications from China and Hong Kong is likely to complicate U.S.-China relations and could send financial ripples through universities as well as the broader economy.

A 2023 report from Lehigh University named China as the leading country for international student enrollment, leaving it hardest hit among Lehigh Valley colleges and universities.

There are more than 3,800 Chinese students at UC San Diego, the largest international student population on campus.
