Chinese hackers are burrowing into the networks of major critical U.S. infrastructure, including energy grids, water treatment plants and transportation networks.

Beijing was steeling itself for a first-week assault from Donald Trump. That hasn’t happened — yet — so Chinese leaders are making nice and hoping to cut a deal.

In an executive order signed on Monday, Trump instructed the U.S. attorney general to not enforce the ban for 75 days while his administration determines “the appropriate course forward in an orderly way that protects national security while avoiding an abrupt shutdown” of TikTok.

TikTok users in the U.S. flurried to social media platform X to complain that the ByteDance-owned app that went dark late on Jan. 18 was still unavailable to download on Apple and Google’s app stores,
