The 400-plus-year-old stone manor house was constructed for the monks of Bath Abbey in the late 1500s and named for the 12th century Church of St. Catherine, which still sits adjacent to the home.

The site of the manor house is ancient. There was a Saxon monastery here in the ninth century, and then a summer palace for the Bishops of Worcester, which was built in the 12th century.
