Homeless people in Washington, D.C., could face jail time if they do not comply with President Donald Trump's efforts to crack down on crime and rid the U.S. capital of homeless encampments, the White House said on Tuesday.

The White House on Tuesday said homeless people in the nation’s capital could be subject to fines and jail time as the administration cracks down on crime. “The homeless problem has ravaged the city,” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters.

The fight is set to be part of a series of events commemorating the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States.
