Roger Clemens came back to Yankee Stadium on Saturday, and so did the questions about his bat-throwing incident with Mike Piazza in the World Series 25 years earlier. Piazza was batting against Clemens in the first inning of Game 2 of the 2000 World Series when his bat shattered along the first-base line.

In Game 2 of the 2000 World Series, New York Yankees starting pitcher Roger Clemens threw a shard of a broken bat in the direction of New York Mets catcher Mike Piazza, who had just broken his lumber while trying to fight off an inside pitch that dribbled foul.

Clemens, speaking to reporters after the conclusion of Saturday’s Old-Timers’ Day festivities, said he’s in support of most new rules. He likes the pitch clock. He loves the automated strike zone and wants every batter to have an opportunity to challenge a pitch at least once every game. As he put it, “it only takes two seconds.”
