Tyrese Haliburton's dream NBA Finals Game 7 start quickly turned into a nightmare as the Pacers star exited the winner-take-all title game Sunday night in the first quarter. The Pacers ultimately lost Game 7 against the Oklahoma City Thunder, and it was confirmed Monday that Haliburton has a torn right Achilles tendon.

Haliburton’s reported Achilles injury marks the third of this postseason, following Damian Lillard of Milwaukee in the first round against Indiana and Boston’s Jayson Tatum in the semifinals vs. New York. Back in the 2019 Finals, Golden State’s Kevin Durant suffered an Achilles tear against Toronto.

The NBA is using artificial intelligence and has convened a panel of sports medicine experts to study the uptick of Achilles tears happening in the league, Commissioner Adam Silver said in an ESPN interview before the NBA Draft Wednesday night.
