Al Golden agreed to return to Cincinnati on Wednesday after three seasons as Notre Dame's defensive coordinator, a person with knowledge of the decision told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the decision has not been announced. According to ESPN PR, the game between OSU and the Irish pulled in 22.1 million viewers, the most watched non-NFL sporting event over the past year. The game peaked at 26.1 million viewers between 8:30 and 8:45 p.m. ET.

After finishing as the last team standing in the expanded 12-team College Football Playoff, Ohio State rightfully ended as the No. 1 team in the final AP Top 25 of the 2024 season after defeating Notre Dame in the CFP National Championship on Monday night.

Notre Dame is an independent but plays four other ACC schools. The dates for those games have yet to be set but the opponents are: at Pitt, at Boston College, North Carolina State, and Syracuse. The Miami game is scheduled for Hard Rock Stadium on Aug. 30 but it could move anywhere from Aug. 28 to Sept. 1.
