HBO, short for Home Box Office, has been one of the biggest players in premium cable programming for decades at this point. HBO got its start back in 1972 and made a groundbreaking move in 1975, becoming the American network to deliver its programming via satellite and being the very first national cable channel.
WBD CEO David Zaslav announced the move, with the company declaring, "no consumer today is saying they want more content, but better content."
